Jael McCants PT, DPT, CSCS (she/her)
Dr. Jael McCants is a New York State licensed physical therapist with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from New York University. Her practice emphasizes the use of functional manual therapy to reduce pain and restore movement efficiency. Jael’s approach is endlessly inspired by the Institute of Physical Art where she has received advanced training in manual therapy. She is committed to broadening her skills as a physical therapist and is willing to engage in specific continuing education that supports the progress and overall well being of her clients. In addition to her work as a manual therapist, Jael is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association with experience in biomechanics and exercise progression, making sure to keep movers feeling strong and powerful throughout the rehabilitation process.
Jael is an empathy driven practitioner, constantly exploring the ways our social identities matter in therapeutic alliance, patient safety, and beyond. As a queer black woman, she is passionate about the healing of folks commonly discriminated against in healthcare settings and is committed to health equity for people of color, the lgbtqia+ community, and the hyper marginalized. Alongside her work as a physical therapist, Jael teaches courses related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for health professionals and student physical therapists.
Jael received her Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College where she studied biology and modern dance, a combination that piqued her interest in the physical therapy profession. Before physical therapy school, she spent several years working in the music industry and now misses the free concert tickets. Jael is originally from Madison, Wisconsin and has called Brooklyn home for more than 10 years. She is one of seven kids, a twin, and a Capricorn. Jael's favorite bone is the clavicle and her favorite muscle is the gluteus medius.
